Identity verification and fingerprints
Filed in: Ed's blog spot
I heard of a Russian immigrant lady who was trying to get a green card. As part of the identity verification process, she had submitted all her documents, but months later, she still hadn't got anywhere.
Someone intervened on her behalf and was told that the application was incomplete because she had failed to submit satisfactory fingerprint samples.
The lady was dumbfounded to learn this, because she had sent her prints in several times, but each time they had been rejected.
After many enquiries, it turned out that her fingerprint samples were useless - she had been born with perfectly smooth fingertips. Once that was cleared up, she submitted a definitive set of whorl-less prints and they were accepted. She is now living happily ever after somewhere in the US - breaking and entering with impunity?
