Radio Shack, podcasting and Movie Beam

Further to our "How to podcast" blog, we got to thinking that perhaps we were too casual with our hardware selection - the internal microphone on a 4-year old Mac laptop, period. So, in order to be taken more seriously, we went in search of the perfect omni-directional microphone. The staff at Radio Shack were full of fine advice and a few wisecracks.
The cheapest microphone we have is this clip-on thing. Don't rightly know where it is. It was right there, last week.
Our heart sunk, but after a quick glance around the store, we saw it hanging in the printer cable section, so that solved that issue. Handing over the $12.67, we asked about directions to a local Blockbuster store.
One of the assistants' ears pricked up.
Our clairvoyant microphone guy chipped in.
But I bet these folks don't have cable, do you!
We shook our sorry heads and then listened to a list of modern alternatives to Blockbuster, including Netflix and a new one called Movie Beam. The two Radio Shackers joined forces and accompanied us over to the latest greatest on-demand video offering.
The microphone guy says,
"My colleague gives me a real pain in the neck, you know."
To which his colleague replies,
"Well, that would be on account of his two faces!"
After a rerun of how we had to be true North Americans and just sit at home and download everything, we grew very interested in the Movie Beam deal. A set top box for $99 and $3 a movie. It plugs into our crappy TV. No monthly fees. All we need to know is the movie selection and we may be on our way.
Thanks Radio Shack for the podcasting hardware, the sound quality is even better than our first barebones solution. The entertainment value and the movie advice were priceless too. We'll be back.
