Brohans: review

brohans

We found Brohans Video Blog over at the MyBlogLog community, a social networking spot for bloggers. Brohans is one of the class acts in the humor department, with their witty posts plus relevant Youtube video. (Or is it the other way round?) Either way, from the first impression to the final grin, Brohans is worth a look, and a (free) review.

Brohans opens with a colorful splash

Landing on a new site is all about first impressions, and from the outset, there is no mistaking the fact that the site is a blog about videos. The detective in me deduced it was run by Henry and Matt. This is all elementary webpage design that is well done.

Moving down a squidge, the banner is a clever mix of navigation and advertising. About as good as it gets, actually, because for anyone with an ounce of curiosity, there is no confusion what each square signifies on the left in the picks section. And once you start clicking, there is no reason why you wouldn't investigate and discover the $2 ad spaces on the right.

OK, so it is commercial, sue them! But it is engaging all the way so far, which means it is all good.

At this point, the only criticism in fact, is the lack of options for a different cursor. If I could have had a hammer instead of an arrow, i would have smashed David Hasselhof's smug look straight off his bouffoned head, but that is another issue I have, outside of Brohans' control.

The video blog, Brohans style

Many cheap skate bloggers out there dump an embed code from Youtube on the page and say, "Hey, this made me grin, check it out." before signing off for the day. Not these blokes. I have noticed that they either do a decent paragraph on a few videos per day, or there is a comprehensive story played out with a mix of videoclips and text. Valentines was an epic production too, I think.

Everyone goes on about a blog having to have focus. Well, humorous writing and entertaining videoclips are the common theme in the eclectic mix of personal diaries and general current affairs/what's on tv content - good and worst.

The Brohans touch

The site's authors are a bit different from the rest. Henry claims to be an Olympic weight lifter and Matt is the son of a mongoose. They write well, despite their difficult life circumstances. And they clearly have good marketing skills, already bombed out of existence, temporarily, by visitors from College humor. No doubt there will be a few more over-popular repeats to come.

(Please stay away from us, College Humor, we may only be little, but our servers have the full forces of a small orange behind them!)

And with consummate ease, that leads on to the ending. The Brohans logo is great, check it out on The Pisstakers' looping ad box, coming soon. Please click on it as many times as you care to visit Brohans video blog site, or go see what else the guys do by visiting the MyBlogLog site .
