Techboggle review

techboggle

When you land on TechBoggle's homepage, at first glance you get a simple banner, a strong name and a clear hint of what to expect: mind-boggling tech stories. Inside, the promises hold true!

There are loads of bloggers out there, though, doing the product review gig, and doing it well, so does this blog have an edge? Too right. Bookmark Techboggle as a site of the future.

The mind boggling aspect of Techboggle

Before you get too engrossed in the wide-ranging and insightful Techboggle articles on MP3 players, iPhones, Vista et al, dip into the oft neglected "Author" link. The boggling gets positively mind-blowing. Nicholas Pruett, the blog's author, is 17 years old! Blimey, the youth of today, what are they like!

No need to make excuses for his tender years. In this young guy's case, he is already pretty bloody good at what he does. And when talented writers are committed, like Nicholas, to improving their knowledge, skills and style, they can only get better. This tech blog writer makes for a very exciting find.

Clear and concise understanding of tech products

A lot of old farts find even the simplest tech mind-boggling. There are way too many greying VCR owners who are still unable to do much more than record a show they are already watching! And we should almost celebrate the progresss of a 70 year old dinosaur senator who has gotten over the first hurdle and can already visualize the internet as a series of tubes.

In contrast, young agile minds born into a 3 PC-owning family haven't been damaged by bad experiences at the hands of BBC micro computers and mobile phones weighing in at 24lbs. Tech-oriented under 18's can readily adapt to any new gadget in minutes, and for living proof of that assertion, just look at Nicholas' articles on the Zune, iPhone, Hamachi software etc. He has an uncanny grasp of the basics.

Clear and concise explanation of tech products

Being a knowledgeable tech gadget geek is not enough to be a good tech blogger. There are loads of people who know how things work, but they sure as hell can't explain themselves. How refreshing that a "kid" can explain in words of one syllable, not only how something as complicated as an MP3 player works, but then go on to compare and contrast it with similar products!

And not only can he place the product in the context of its genre, but even offer practical suggestions on where the product cycle might end up, or how the industry might develop in the face of xyz product's release.

Impressive stuff, especially as this old fart can still remember how easy it was as a youth to demolish other people's efforts, but be completely out of one's depth offering practical solutions and alternatives. No such problem there for Nicholas.

Thumbs up

So, if you want the run down on the latest techie stuff; if you prefer simple but stylish presentation over fussy or fiddly; and you like your articles to be written with panache and plenty of wit, rather than wrist-slashing technicalia, give Techboggle a hearty bookmark.
